Kaohsiung 2013

TAIWAN KAOHSIUNG FAMILY TRIP 2013
Finally got time to organize the pics and what-not and blog again. Phewww.. It has been awhile. Gotta start tapping these keyboards before I start becoming lazy again. So here's what's new - (some images were taken from Google images)

Day 1 - Wednesday 9/10/2013
  • Reached Hong Kong International Airport at 5pm. Realized our flight to Kaohsiung has been delayed for 2 hours.
  • Reached Kaohsiung Airport at 9.30pm. Greeted by my youngest aunt (as usual).
  • Took MRT from airport to 美丽岛 (Formosa Boulevard station). Walked all the way to our apartment at 大同一路 crossed 忠孝一路. Surprisingly near - took only 20 minutes to reach 'home'
  • Quick change and off to 六合夜市 (Liu He Night Market) for a quick supper. Had steamed prawn, clams, and simple meehoon soup and of course, 蚝仔煎 (oyster omelette) ohohohoho.

Day 2 - Thursday 10/10/2013
  • Apparently Taiwan's National Day - so it was a public holiday for everyone. The street was rather empty.
  • Went for lunch at 海天下, a famous local seafood restaurant with aunt and 3rd uncle. Seems like a rendezvous we have to be EVERYTIME we come back to Kaohsiung. It is only lunch and we ate like pigs! Had steamed prawns, veges, fish, fried rice, deep fried oyster roll (蚝仔卷), prawns, three cups fried squid (三杯小卷) and vege soup.
  • Rested for awhile at home and then off we went to 三多商圈 (San Duo Shopping District). Walked around 统一, Sogo and FE 21 Mega Mall. Bought some shirts, hoodies, and shoes (so much more variant at big brands and cheaper too)

Day 3 - Friday 11/10/2013
  • Took MRT to 高雄车站 (Kaohsiung Main Station) then took a 区间车 (local train) to "oh god, I forgot but it took 1.5 hours" to visit our 2nd aunty.
  • Had lunch at a nearby seafood restaurant again and yes, had another round of feast ala wedding dinner style. Had seafood soup (海鲜羹), cold platters, salted prawns, stir fried pork with crispy rice, steamed fish, veges, steamboat soup, crocodile meat soup... (which i did not dare to try hahaha)
  • Chit chat at 2nd aunty's house till 5pm and then took an evening train back to  高雄车站 (Kaohsiung Main Station) then to 美丽岛 (Formosa Boulevard station). Tired die!
  • Another round of quick change and off to 六合夜市 (Liu He Night Market) again for snacks. Had awesome 胡椒饼 (Pepper pork bun) and so-so 熏鸭翅膀 (Smoked Duck wing). And then a bowl of wonderful hot 花枝羹 (Squid soup?) ^^

Day 4 - Saturday 12/10/2013
  • Took MRT to 高雄车站 (Kaohsiung Main Station) then took a 区间车 (local train) to "oh god, I forgot again but it took 40 minutes" to visit our youngest uncle and his family.
  • Went to a place called 農舍 for lunch - had chicken paprika, barbequed pork, veges, vege soup, steamed chicken, cod fish. Met cousin sisters and her 2 children. The last time I went to Taiwan, she was still pregnant with her first child. OMFG. The son is such a real pain in the ass. So glued to the mother, cannot leave the mother for a second -.-" - will start crying in the absence of her mother. The daughter, whilst younger seems easier to take care of.

Day 5 - Sunday 13/10/2013
  • Took a wee morning MRT raide to 岗山 (Gangshan Station) to meet up with a distant aunty who took us to a small pekan-like place at a mountain (yes a mountain) to eat chicken. Yes. chicken. ALL sorts of chicken - deep fried, steamed, roasted, in soup, appetizers. Wasn't really THAT fascinated but oh well, something new for an experience.
  • Back to 美丽岛 (Formosa Boulevard station) and then went on to 中央公园 (Central Park Station). Took 接驳车 (shuttle bus) to see 黄色小鸭 (the Yellow Rubber Duck - new tourist attraction at point of time).
  • Walked further to 新倔江 (Shin Ku Chan Shopping District). Look see look see and ended up eating 勝博殿 (Saboten Japanese Cutlet Restaurant) at 大立 (Talees Deparmental Store).

Day 6 - Monday 14/10/2013
  • Took taxi all the way to a village (not sure how it is written in Mandarin but it is pronounced as Biduo in Hokkien) where my eldest uncle resides. Visited the temple he took care of.
  • Had lunch at the temple with my uncle and aunt. Went back to the city around 1pm.
  • Took MRT to 凯旋 (Kai Shyuan Station) and then 接驳车 (shuttle bus) to 梦时代 (Dream Mall). Shopped around for 4-5 hours. Shirts, shirts, and more shirts. Pretty much like a MidValley + Pavilion combo (yeah, sounds abit off but yeah..)
  • Took MRT to 凯旋 (Kai Shyuan Station) and then 接驳车 (shuttle bus) to 凯旋夜市 & 金鑽夜市 (Kai Shyuan Night Market & Jin Zhuan Night Market) - was told it was the biggest night market in Taiwan now. The crowd was indeed massive!

Day 7 - Tuesday 15/10/2013
  • Bro and gf took Speed train to Taipei - where all his wedding proposal extravaganza took place. Hearsay they went to Taipei 101, had a french cuisine dinner and voila, THE DIAMOND ring.
  • I spent my day at the 漢神本店 (Hanshin Mall) located near the 中央公园 (Central Park Station). Nothing to walk in there - was conned into the mall by some aunty from a nearby souvenir shop.
  • Off I went back to 新倔江 (Shin Ku Chan Shopping District) and bought myself couple of new pants. So cheap , so very cheap!~ what a bargain..
  • Had a simple dinner with youngest aunt and mom near our apartment. Had 控肉饭 (Braised pork rice) - very much like our 卤肉.

Day 8 - Wednesday 16/10/2013
  • Took MRT to 巨蛋 (Arena Station) and went to 漢神巨蛋購物廣場 (Hanshin Arena Shopping Mall) with bro and gf who just got back from Taipei early morning.
  • So happened, it was the Special VIP day at the mall and everything was min. 20% off. Bought myself a bag (yay!). And we saw Taiwan celebrity, 艾利克斯 there. Celebrity really is celebrity. Walk also got wind...~~~phewwww~~~
  • Went dinner with another cousin sister and her husband and family at this Thai place. But strangely enough, we didn't really have much of Thai food, LOL, rather fusion actually. We had shark's fin soup, steak, scallop, clams, deep fried prawn cake, vege, ginseng chicken soup and plum jelly for dessert. Oh la la....

Day 9 - Thursday 17/10/2013
  • Nothing much in the daytime. Simple dinner with aunt and family at nearby stalls. Had 炒牛肉乌龙面 (Stir fried beef udon noodles). Not bad not bad. Add vinegar mucccch nicer!
  • Went to 金別墅咖啡館 (Jin Bie Shu Cafe) after dinner for a final taste of Kaohsiung. The place was pretty English-like tea-house. Pretty nice interior. Had Iced Mocha and Waffles and Brownies.

Day 10 - Friday 18/10/2013
  • Reached Hong Kong International Airport at 12:30pm. Stayed on till 4pm and took a 3.5 hours flight back to KLIA.
  • Reached home at 10pm.

0 bright lights:
